Are You a Baby Boomer Babe?

Are you a baby boomer woman? I am. It took me a long time to say that in public, and I still don’t announce it in certain situations. But one day I woke up and realized that this is who I am, at least as defined by the year I was born. People born between 1946 and 1964 are baby boomers. The years are easy to remember because the numbers are transposed.

When you turn age 50, AARP, the American Association of Retired People, sends a membership application, and year after year I threw it in the trash. At age 49, I had just started a new business, training people to run marathons, and was far from retiring. My mantra was and still is, “I’ll retire when I’m in the ground”. Surely, a dark statement, but a truthful one.

You see, I love to work. You might say I’m a work-a-holic, but I prefer to call myself a "creator-a-holic™". My office and home are full of post-it notes and to-do lists with ideas. I have been fortunate to have a decades-long career in two industries that afford me the ability to be creative: fashion and fitness.

The Fit Fashionista

As a fit fashionista, with an appearance and personality that is characteristic of a much younger woman, when I tell someone my age, their reaction is usually the “jaw drop” and then the words “get out of here” or “no way”. Due to good genes (thanks, Mom!) and five decades of being a long-distance runner with six marathons and countless races under my belt where I won age-group awards, I defy my real age.

You can read my story of how I found fashion and how running found me and how it all came together for BB Babes.

In 2023, after many years of resisting, I finally joined and received my AARP card. I must admit the benefits are plentiful, and no one is pushing me into retirement. In fact, they encourage people to reinvent and support people who are still working.

As a personal fashion stylist, professional running coach, and certified health coach, I plan on leading the way with my new business, BB Babes, The Fashion, Fitness, and Health Network for Baby Boomer Women. Find out how you can be a BB Babe with a complimentary 15-minute coaching chat on fashion, fitness, or health. Click here to schedule the call.
